stealing ideas
The joy of blogging is that you get to read other people's posts and then steal the ideas. Well, that was the theory. Less than a month ago I read something in Three Legged Cat's blog. Of course I have done this before in maths lessons but (because I am old) I hadn't done it for many years and had totally forgotten about it. Today I re-used/used an idea that I had remembered/stolen from her blog.
Today we had a practical maths lesson - piece of wool, marker pen, ruler, calculator and as many spherical objects as we could find. We measured circumferences and then divided by the diameter. After getting forty results we added up all the answers and divided by forty - to work out what our average result would be. We achieved 3.3125.
Ok, so it's not 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510 but it's pretty accurate.
Thanks for the reminder tlc - oh, and all your "pie" references don't work here...it's pronounced "pea". And I really don't want to get into jokes about "pea".
