840. That's the count, 840. It appears that between January the first and December 31st (actually, make that December 30th) there have been 840 murders in 366 (or 365, depending on what happens tonight).There were only 400 murders by the beginning of October and the city of Tijuana was looking at maybe scraping in below the 600 mark. But it was in October that the arrest happened. The arrest you ask? Yeah, Arellano Felix was arrested in October. And that was when it all went apeshit.
October there were 147 bodies, November 211 bodies, and December just the 86.
There is no head of the drug cartel, no one mister big. Oh sure, El Ingeniero wants the job - but he's fightng on two fronts. He wants Tijuana and Tecate. There is El Albañil who is doing his best with beheadings (and buring people in concrete). And then there is the new guy - we reckon he's called Fat Tony. Isn't there always someone called Fat Tony? Anyhoo, the new guy has taken to dressing his victims up. In women's clothes. Or baby clothes (plus dummy/comforter). And then dumping the bodies.
Rumour as it that the dody count has fallen off for December because all the drug dealers have gone home for Christmas - those drug dealers, they love their mums. They've probably all gone back to Sinaloa - lights blue touch paper and waits for explosion.
However, even as I type this, breaking news tells me that my numbers are already wrong. Another five bodies have hit the floor today. It is just past 5pm, there is seven hours to go until the end of the year. We won't be going out tonight - we'll sit at home and hope we don't make 850.
